No.2 – Manchester Uniteds comeback in 1999

Mario Basler’s free-kick from just outside the box caught Peter Schmeichel out and nestled into the bottom corner in the sixth minute to stun half of the Camp Nou.With United failing to create any clear-cut opportunities, Basler almost doubled Bayerns lead when his long-range effort skimmed the top of the crossbar.Mehmet Scholl also went close for the German club as his lob hit the post before the woodwork was struck once more, this time by Carsten Jancker.Somehow, United were still in the game. But Bayern failed to clear a corner in the 91st minute and Ryan Giggs shot was turned in by one of two super-subs Teddy Sheringham to bring United level. And then the unthinkable happened just two minutes later. David Beckhams corner was flicked on by Sheringham and poked in by fellow substitute Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the back post.It was a remarkable comeback which underlined Uniteds fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude under Sir Alex Ferguson.
