Longstaff earned rave reviews before a serious injury ended his season prematurely
Longstaff has made just 13 appearances for the Magpies, with his Premier League debut coming as recently as Boxing Day 2018.However, he started eight top flight matches from the turn of the year until March, when his progression was curtailed by a knee ligament injury which forced the youngster to miss the final nine matches of the campaign.Longstaff was earning rave reviews during his time on the pitch and was being heralded as a star of the future, and United appear to have taken notice of his performances. He has been compared with Michael Carrick, a fellow Geordie who ended up at Manchester United in 2006 and is currently on Solskjaer’s coaching staff.Newcastle are understood to have no intention of selling Longstaff this summer, and they reportedly intend to enter contract talks with the youngster after Rafa Benitez’s future at the club is resolved.
