Though Arsenal have previously offered contract extensions to injured players as an incentive, such as Santi Cazorla, the Gunners will not do the same for Welbeck, The Times report. This means Welbeck will leave Arsenal when his deal expires on June 30 to become a free agent, five years after joining the north London club from Manchester United. Unai Emery is happy to let Welbeck depart the Emirates for nothing to free up the wage budget for new signings, while he also plans to incorporate younger players like Reiss Nelson into Arsenal’s first-team squad moving forward.

Welbeck will not be alone in leaving Arsenal for free next summer, with Aaron Ramsey also departing the Emirates at the end of 2018/19.The Gunners will not offer Wales midfielder Ramsey a new contract, with various clubs lining up to capture the 27-year-old on a free transfer.

Tottenham were superb against Chelsea and one of the key components of the victory was the way they marshalled playmaker Jorginho. This time out its likely their midfield is going to encounter the hustle and bustle of Torreira alongside Granit Xhaka. This pairing are likely to keep the Spurs attackers quiet if they can close the gaps and force the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli into trickier passes.
